Pectineus

Latin: M. pectineus

Location: Thigh

View the pectineus in 3D

Origin

Pectineal line of the pubis and superior pubic ramus.

Insertion

Pectineal line of the femur (between the lesser trochanter and linea aspera).

Action

Adducts and flexes the thigh; forms the floor of the femoral triangle.

Nerve supply

Femoral nerve and occasionally obturator (L2–L4).

Blood supply

Medial circumflex femoral artery.

Clinical relevance

Its dual innervation mirrors its position between the anterior and medial compartments; in cerebral palsy, adductor spasticity (including pectineus) causes scissoring and hip subluxation, sometimes treated by surgical release.
