Blood vesselArtery

Right pulmonary artery

Latin: Arteria pulmonalis dextra

Location: Thorax

View the right pulmonary artery in 3D

Course

Longer than the left, passes behind the ascending aorta and SVC to the right hilum.

Branches

Upper, middle and lower lobar arteries.

Clinical relevance

Its course behind the ascending aorta hides it from many echo views; a 'saddle' embolus straddles the pulmonary trunk's bifurcation into the right and left arteries.
