Posterior manubrium and sterno-clavicular ligament.
Insertion
Body of the hyoid.
Action
Depresses the hyoid after swallowing, steadying it for the suprahyoids.
Nerve supply
Ansa cervicalis (C1–C3).
Blood supply
Superior thyroid artery.
Clinical relevance
One of the infrahyoid 'strap' muscles retracted (or divided) to reach the thyroid gland during thyroidectomy.
