MuscleForearm — posterior (deep)

Supinator

Latin: M. supinator

Location: Forearm

View the supinator in 3D

Origin

Lateral epicondyle, radial collateral and annular ligaments, supinator crest of the ulna.

Insertion

Lateral, posterior and anterior surfaces of the proximal radial shaft.

Action

Supinates the forearm — 'can I carry a bowl of soup?' — with the biceps adding power in flexion.

Nerve supply

Posterior interosseous nerve (C6–C8).

Blood supply

Radial recurrent artery.

Clinical relevance

The posterior interosseous nerve threads it in the arcade of Frohse — compression here mimics radial palsy with finger-drop but no wrist-drop.
