MuscleArm — anterior compartment
Brachialis
Latin: M. brachialis
Location: Arm
View the brachialis in 3DOrigin
Distal half of the anterior humerus, including both intermuscular septa.
Insertion
Coronoid process and tuberosity of the ulna.
Action
The elbow's purest flexor — working in every forearm position unlike the biceps — and the only flexor attaching to the ulna.
Nerve supply
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5–C6); radial nerve contributes to a lateral slip.
Blood supply
Brachial artery branches.
Clinical relevance
It can be injured — and ossify (myositis ossificans) — after elbow dislocation or supracondylar fracture; its bulk protects the anterior elbow capsule and the brachial artery.
