View the inferior nasal concha in 3DFunction
A standalone scroll of bone that turbulates airflow in the left nasal cavity, creating a turbulent stream that warms, humidifies and filters air before it reaches the lungs. It also enlarges the mucosal surface for heat and water exchange.

- Turbinated scroll
- Maxillary process
Articulations (joints)
- Maxilla
- Lacrimal bone
- Ethmoid bone
- Palatine bone
Clinical relevance
Chronic rhinitis and allergy enlarge the inferior conchae (turbinate hypertrophy) causing nasal obstruction; reduction or turbinectomy restores airflow.
