Origin

Superior gemellus: ischial spine. Inferior gemellus: ischial tuberosity.

Insertion

Medial greater trochanter with the obturator internus tendon.

Action

Reinforce the obturator internus tendon as lateral rotators of the hip.

Nerve supply

Nerve to obturator internus (superior) and nerve to quadratus femoris (inferior).

Blood supply

Inferior gluteal artery.

Clinical relevance

The sciatic nerve crosses behind them; with obturator internus they are the short external rotators detached and repaired in the posterior approach to hip replacement.
