Posterior surface of the inferior angle of the scapula.
Insertion
Crest of the lesser tubercle (medial lip of the intertubercular groove) of the humerus.
Action
Medially rotates and adducts the arm — the latissimus dorsi's little helper.
Nerve supply
Lower subscapular nerve (C5–C6).
Blood supply
Subscapular and circumflex scapular arteries.
Clinical relevance
Forms the inferior border of the quadrangular and triangular spaces (teres minor forms the superior border); with latissimus dorsi it is used in tendon transfers for shoulder reconstruction.
